5 Roof Top Maintenance Tips

Nothing lasts forever and at some point you’re sure to have to have someone come out and take a look at your roof, unsurprising given what it has to protect you from over the years.

But you can certainly do an awful lot to prolong the life of your roof and keep it in good health by catching potential issues early on, preventing them from becoming big problems that could prove costly to fix.

It can be easy to fall into complacency where roof care is concerned, however, so it’s important that you come up with some kind of schedule so you don’t forget.

This could be very simple, something like just taking a visual inspection of the roof from the ground in spring and then again in autumn. If you see something concerning, you can then take a closer look. What about buying a drone to help you see the top of the building?

Look out for the likes of missing tiles, damaged drip edging, sagging gutters, buckling and so on, all of which are signs that your roof needs a little bit of TLC.

Also don’t forget to look closer at your garden. If your trees are growing too close to the building and touching the roof, make sure you trim these back as soon as you can. During high winds and storms, tree branches can be dangerous and cause damage.

Taking care of your roof and garden during spring and summer means you won’t have to worry about leaks and cracks during the winter, when it can be riskier to do work outside on your property.
